Summary Convictions

A Summary Conviction Offence is one that is less serious than an indictable offence, however is still punishable by a prison sentence or fine, or both. A Summary (which means “quick and simple manner”) Conviction is usually less of a charge than an indictable offence and can have a penalty of up to 6 months in jail or up to $5,000 in fines, or both.  They can also be included in a hybrid charge that includes an indictment as well.

It’s important to understand the charges clearly so that you can make a sound and rational decision when it comes to dealing with legal matters like this one.
